OK Geoffrey, You're Right!

Yes, Geoffrey, you are right. Training with the group IS better than training on my own. Before you arrived at the pool on Tuesday I was taking a leisurely swim spending more time fretting about all of the things I had to do that day than stroke mechanics. Then, once you barked, "OK, give me 10 50s!" I hauled it down the lane and not only did I work out my frustrations, but I swam faster than I thought I could.

Yes, Geoffrey, you are right. It IS important to push yourself sometimes. Swimming in the same lane with you this morning made me try a little harder -- praying that you wouldn't lap me! In the three months or so that I've been training, I've never done a 50 in less than 1:15. Well, today both you and Sherry confirmed that I could do it in exactly one minute! Me!! The one who just learned to swim! Wow! Cool!!

Yes, Geoffrey, you are right. I DO whine! It SUCKS to get up at 5AM when I know I won't get home until 10PM after work. It SUCKS to know that I won't see my kids all day. It SUCKS to still have butt cramps on Thursday from a bike ride on Sunday. It SUCKS to have to keep reminding myself to feel the pavement with my big toes so that my knees don't ache before I've even run a mile. It SUCKS to have to deal with "hair issues" in order to swim whenever I want. It SUCKS to train 6-7 days a week for months and still not have the body of a supermodel.

BUT

Yes, Geoffrey, you are right. It is all worth it. Thanks for being right. Thanks for being a great coach -- and a pretty cool guy to boot!

See you at the race on Sunday! I'll be the one whining. ;-)

I've recently caught up on Stephanie's blog. I'll try to comment on future blogs.

I will mark this day in history! A woman told me I was right four times in one day! LOL!

Stephanie, I'm glad you've realized the benefits of trainig with a group. Don't get me wrong. Sometimes it's nice to have the solitude during a long swim, bike, or run. But training with a group brings out a natural competitiveness in us all. Not only did you swim a 50 in 1:00, but you did it twice. The big deal here is: YOU are seeing improvement! Progress! Reward for your hard work! I could tell stories of similar revelations with myself.

Boy is it easy to whine! With all that stuff that SUCKS let's see what benefits will result. What time will you have to wake up to do Memphis In May? 5AM. I know what you mean about missing the kids, but trust me ... you're leaving an impression on them whether you know it or not. An impression that will likely have them lead an active, healthy lifestyle throughtout childhood. Butt cramps? Sounds like a good excuse to get a massage to me. Run technique? Wait until you're running a 10:00 mile pace ... FOR YOUR LONG RUN! I can't comment on the hair. I have none! LOL! Training, training, training? Supermodel? And I look like Jason Statham! Just replace his six pack with a keg! Quit whining! You've already noticed lbs. and clothes sizes dropping. That means body composition is changing! A good thing!

And when it's all said and done, you'll be happier and healthier ... all for the great cause which Team In Training is for.

One last comment, your husband, Andreas ... he's a great man! At this time his support for you with this endeavor is more important than a lot of the stuff we've mentioned. I can't wait to meet him and your kids! Heck! Maybe we'll get them out here to do a TRI.

Now, you BETTER be at Whistlestop tomorrow! AND NO WHINING!
